Breaking

4/23/2026: I had a bit of a footwork freestyle session and tried drills again (the fast head spins). The drills felt really fluid and easy (without the spin cap) so much so that I could almost hit a full rotation. Also, I finally hit a clean handstand for 10 seconds. I am focusing on just exploring movement at the moment. It is quite freeing to just see where the body goes even though I have very little experience. I shall continue this exploration and drill practice and see where I am in a weeks time.

3/29/2026: Breaking is taking a backseat at the moment because of some weakness in my knees due to climbing. I must rehab those, and I want to focus on my climbing. However, I will continue to practice my foundational steps, freezes, and head spins, so I don't forget any of it. I will probably seriously practice in about a month.

1/31/2026: Head spins have gotten more consistant. It turns out that my hat is better for spin than a beanie. Naturally after this revelation I bought a spin hat. So, once that comes in I will start really spinnin. I also have been working on new footwork patterns. I have been getting really good with my headstand freezes as well. Overall, good couple weeks of light practice. Breaking does give my body another way to express itself besides climbing. Even though climbing may feel like a dance and a form of expression, breaking has the special connection to music that climbing lacks which is really unique. Basically, Dance is sick.

1/13/2026: This week I was able to head spin for one rotation and catch it! It was so surreal. It even got a few of my 8th graders to take up the challenge of doing a headspin. Now I must work on getting it consistant. However, I hurt one of my neck muscles today. So, I will lay off the headspins and work on some footwork basics and combos I saw in some battles last year.

1/8/2026: I am not sure how to format this yet, but I will be documenting my casual progression in Breaking. This week I almost hit a head spin. Pics to come!
